Fear of Blushing Phobia

Our human ability to blush can be quite charming, and  speak about our innocence, vulnerability, modesty, romance and intimacy. But it can also indicate embarrassment, shyness, guilt, shame and low self-esteem......

Becoming red-faced in public, when the centre of personal attention, or on meeting someone of the opposite sex, can be very difficult to disguise or cope with.

Often this problem starts in adolescence or perhaps later teenage years. Sufferers find that they have developed an acute self-consciousness, often accompanied by rapid and anxious thoughts and feelings of embarrassment. Also, the more a person is aware that they may be blushing, the more they tend to blush, leading to a repetitive and automatic cycle.

People with a phobia of blushing cannot bear the thought that they may be showing this so clearly, so they try to find ways to avoid this - often using alcohol and drugs to limit their response. Unfortunately, these often limit other responses at the same time.

Using modern psychological approaches, we can typically remove this problem in a session or two.
