Fear of Blood Phobia

Many people develop a fear of blood, both their own and others, as a result of anxious parents or horror stories, although some develop this condition as a direct result of a traumatic, blood-related incident.

Sufferers will typically avoid sports, intimacy, public places, sharp objects, and strangers, because of the fear of accidental cuts, scratches or nose-bleeds.

Sometimes this phobia can spread to cover diseases and illnesses, hospitals, doctors, and dentists.

Some clients have been so phobic of blood that they faint at the very thought of being exposed to it.

Curiously, this phobia 'makes sense' to those who have it (whereas most other phobias are recognised by the sufferer as illogical and inappropriate). Blood phobics say that they are just being 'normally careful' even when they have just come along for treatment!

Usually a single session or two will resolve this phobia, although another session or so may be needed if there is a lot of anxiety around cleanliness or past traumas.
